Hi. My name is Nicki and Alicia is my 3 1/2 year old daughter. We are going to be bringing many hours of good fun for children and their families. Including such things and great inexpensive crafts, coloring pages, and great links to wonderful childrens sites. Eventually Alicia will be posting some of her wonderful artwork. That is as soon as mom's scanner is fixed. All of my friends that are mothers are going to be contibuting to the creation of this site, so it will be ever changing. My favorite simple craft idea is candle making. Alicia loves it. I use my old candles that have burned themselvs out or are getting hard to light. I also use up all of those broken and used crayons. | What you will need: 1) Wax (either old candles, crayons, boughten, or combination) 2) Wic (I buy mine at the local Wal-mart or craft store) 3) washer or penny to weight down the end of the wic. 4) Small milk or juice cartons (my favorite are the juice cartons from Burger King) 5) chipped ice. Not to small but about the size of marbles. 6) double boiler (what I use is an old can or glass jar in a pan of boiling water. 7) pencil or dowel Directions: 1) Tie on end of a piece of wic (that has been cut two inches deeper then the carton) to the washer or penny. 2) Tie the other end to the pencil and drop the wic into the carton (top opened completely), rolling extra wic around pencil. 3) Ad wax to double boiler and melt completely (CAUTION!!! was is flamable do not leave unattended and always use a doble boiler.) 4) Add chopped ice to container trying to keep the wic in the center as much as possible. 5) Slowly pour melted wax ontop of ice and fill carton. 6) Allow wax to completely cool (if you are as impatient as I am you can cool it in the freezer for a few minutes.) 7) Pour off melted water. 8) Slowly peel back the carton over a bowl or sink. (There will be a lot of excess water) Things to try: * instead of using ice use crayon bits. * melt like colored crayons one at a time and layer the candle. * use an old frozen orange juice container for a round candle.
